Counted Cross Stitch Samplers

Counted cross stitch samplers have been a popular method of stitching for centuries creating a family heirloom. They are an important part of a family history. Young girls would stitch them to practice their skill in stitching. If ever you see an antique sampler it is amazing how these girls managed to stitch such detailed items. The designs were created by themselves or with parental or governess tuition. Samplers would be the first step to learning embroidery and improving their skills.

They would use silk thread even today we talk about embroidery silks however in this modern age we no longer use silk but cotton or rayon threads.

They would also be a way of learning the alphabet and numbers. Usually in a traditional sampler there is the alphabet and numbers some have both this depends on the size of the sampler. Some have a poem or a saying. Most important is the date.

Traditionally the motifs on a sampler have a meaning for example

Bee diligence

Butterfly playfulness

Heart love

Each time you see an antique sampler take a look at the motifs used and they will tell a story of the life of that person.

Today the sampler has not changed a great deal in how they are stitched. The difference is they are mass produced in kit form with a rainbow of colours and a variety of designs. They are stitched on fabric counts from even-weave to 14 count. They are still a very popular way to commemorate special occasions. Wedding, births, new home to name a few but still creating family heirloom which will be around for generations to come. Using a kit is a very convenient way of producing your own sampler.

Making your own sampler with a choice of motifs and the positioning of them is as much fun as the stitching. Samplers are normally symmetrical and look balanced when finished. Designing your makes it personal to you and your family.

When people think of cross stitch samplers, usually forms the image of a simple central motif, surrounded by a frame, can improve with a quote from an alphabet or sewing. In this article, I would like based on a very advanced sampler to a topic perhaps surprisingly ... The cards can imagine!

Staplers generally believe that originally had a dual purpose sampler map. They were a great medium for learning and decorative crafts, but alsoan ideal way to teach geography. Today, stitched by personal attachment to certain areas or as gifts for friends with a completely decorative.

While some cards are known to have been drawn by hand, was outlined in 1780, pre-printed paper was made available on the fabric. They all came ready to embroider. Far from being mere description should include these cards usually some of the following types of decorations:

a flowery frame Cardinal Points the title of the map in a scrolling banner The ships sail along the coast

While some dressmakers focused on a single county or region, sewing cards from other European countries or even the world. As the last great samplers have been developed in two ways: as two flat screen monitor, or continents between them in three dimensions as a globe.

The names of towns, counties and cities would be stitched in the usual black cross stitch, while the coasts and bordersoften in colored silks "are sewn color of love. materials from wool to silk and satin, the latter a popular choice for tickets, which represented the whole world, and" with stem stitch, and that reflects the wires varies saddle stitcher "were known, chenille, and even bird feathers to create texture. This variety is used in modern cross-stitch samplers charms, buttons, wire and beads to add depth to resist.

Give a map of the naturalcan be heard saying that the techniques of freestyle and design in 1700, for how long and short-stemmed points, instead of hard-thread-count techniques are being used well kept. Today, of course, there are a variety of card designs available in a purely cross-stitch and back end point can also be as complex as the reasons of churches or other places of interest.

Fashion for the creation of maps sampler was not as popular in America as in GreatGreat Britain. The most important examples were the American Society of Friends, or Quakers, the children taught in schools, make them grateful for their use value created. The sampler of silk detail in the world Quaker boarding school Wesstown Chester County, Pennsylvania was among the best of them.

As you can see, cross stitch samplers are not only a matter of fundamental motifs and letters, but could actually be great projects, very detailed and complicateddifferent types of tissue. The next time you consider buying a new cross stitch kit, sewing over the world why not try? Better yet, why not design your own business? In both cases, the effort is more necessary than in tandem with the sense of accomplishment for the completion and commissioning of an unusual theme makes your work-related stress.
